The Joys, Trials and Laughter from raising two beautiful little boys, Reed Layne (11 y/o) and Hunter Jaymz (9 y/o) in Northern NJ. The wisdom part may just be what they teach me about myself.

I'll Leave by Dawn
So yesterday Hunter and Reed came to blows and as I separated them, Hunter landed the last smack.
Reed became furious(er) and tried to even the score but I would not let him hit Hunter again. Reed ran upstairs and slammed his room door closed behind him.
Shortly I heard him screaming and crying but when I entered his room he was inconsolable and angrily demanded I leave his room. I did.
In a few minutes the door opened and he threw a folded note onto the floor outside his room.
Dear Dad,
I know you hate me and it hurts me a lot! So I'll leave by dawn.
The son you hate,
Reed
PS: I love you why don't you love me?
----------------------------------------
Another note followed a minute later:
"I'm a bitch to you right you hate me and love Hunter."
I decided to write Reed a note, thinking it would be better-received. I was also concerned I might smirk if he said he'd leave at dawn.
I wrote a note saying I loved him and Hunter the same and I hated seeing them fight. I drew a big broken heart on it.
A few minutes later Reed came downstairs. He was trying not to smile. He gave me a huge hug and told me he was sorry.
I love these guys!

Two Boys and Two Studio Portraits...
Which do you like more?
I was setting up for corporate headshots and Hunter let me take a bunch of shots of him. It was fun and allowed me to test and refine the 3-light set-up. Hunter usually won't let me take photos of him so this was special.
Next day, Reed acceded to the same request.
Got me to thinking...that the more interesting photo is not the eyes at the camera smile but something more open to interpretation.
Thanks for the lesson, guys!

Shit Hunter Says
Me: Hunter I got a haircut today and trimmed my beard.
Hunter: Shave the beard off
Me: Why
Hunter: I want you to look like a big brother, not a Dad.

Shit Reed Says
Me: Reed, bath or shower tonight?
Reed: Shower
Me: Why don't you ever wanna take a bath anymore.
Reed: Well, I'm growing up and I can't act like a 4 or 5 y/o anymore.
